Are you having trouble identifying what product suits your hair? Ever wondered what type and texture your hair actually is? Confused with all the terms and categorizations of hair floating around?
Hopefully this short post will help to answer any of the above questions, and we will be recommending which products might suit your hair!
A common confusion among men (and women) is about the difference between hair types and textures. In short, there are 2 main hair textures (straight and curly) and 4 hair types (straight, wavy, coiled and kinky), as categorised by Rogelio Samson in his book “The Men’s Hair Book”.
- Straight hair (texture)
- Straight hair (type)
-
Curly hair (texture)
- Wavy hair (type)
- Coiled hair (type)
- Kinky hair (type)
How do you know if you have Straight or Curly hair? A good rule of thumb is to measure the first 8cm of your hair, starting from your scalp. If your hair does not curl within this mark, then you’ve got Straight hair; likewise, if it does, you have Curly hair.
